SCIENCE: CURRENT EVENT 5

Did you know that Earth is surrounded by ozone, a layer of gas that protects the Earth from harmful UV rays. Usually, all the time, the amount of ozone in each area is different at different times. Scientist, till now recorded the amount of ozone particularly the North Pole. It decreases and it increases but scientist have never seen the amount of ozone this low. Normally there is the most amount of ozone in the area of the Arctic Circle. But according to the record that they have recorded till now, few days ago, scientist have found out that early spring of 2011, the amount of ozone near the North Pole was way too low to say that it was a slight change in the amount of ozone. This way, scientists are worrying that there won't be enough ozone to protect the Earth from the sun's powerful UV rays. They have seen such happenings in the southern hemisphere but they have never seen such happenings near the North Pole. They call this the 'Arctic ozone hole' even though it does not have a full hole in it, it is so close for being a hole, the scientists call it that way. But they sill don't know if it is a slight change in the atmosphere or if its a loss of the ozone.

Did you know that scientist have figured out that in a newly discovered planet, if you look at the sky during day time, you can see 2 glowing orbs making their way across the sky! The planet's name is Kepler-16b. On Earth you can only see 1 sun at any time. But in Kepler-16b, you can see 2 sun rises, 2 sun sets, and 2 sun up in the sky during day time. This happens because two stars orbits each other and changes position every time. A  astronaut named Laurence Doyle said that it is not unusual for Kepler-16b to have a star locked as a double. He also said that this is the first star to be discovered with a locked star as a double with it but there will be many more.  Scientist think that this is a important discovery and many should be found more. After they figured out how to look for them and what they look like, they found many more stars and planets like Kepler-16b.

MY THOUGHTS:

I think that it is great that scientist are discovering more and more variety of the solar systems or different variety of planets and stars. I think next time they will find about out of the solar system and even figure out more about galexies.

SCIENCE: CURRENT EVENT 3

The governments around the world and scientists says that there is too many space junk outer space. There are too much satellites that are not used, and satellites that are not important. Everyone says that the Earth looks like this, -------------------------------------------------------------->


But the Earth actually looks like this with all the space junk.








Some scientist did some research to see how many will be there in the future. They think every year 10 satellites will be removed (destroyed).
Scientist don't want to increase more orbital debris, which is smaller pieces of satellite made when they bump into each other. In 2009 a Russian satellite and a U.S. satellite bumped into each other and made a huge accident. The scientists don't want to make and accident that big again, so they are trying to get full satellites removed and also orbital debris removed from space so it won't crash into Earth. Another situation, a satellite hit the capital of Saudi Arabia which caused a terrible crash.
