SCIENCE: CURRENT EVENT 2

Did you know that scientists discovered that there are glow-in-the-dark cats?  But they also figured out that the problem causing the cat to glow is a virus called Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) which is similar to HIV virus. In US, if there are 100 cats, 1-3 cats will have FIV.  This is because the cats keep biting each other which cause the virus to flow into one and other.  HIV can also cause AIDS.  A person with AIDS is unable to fight off infections.  The scientists think that with studying FIV, they can find a way to help the people with HIV.  The FIV virus is a tiny particle that attacks the cells in the body and produces one and other over and over.  The set of instructions that the FIV virus uses is called genes.  Poeschla, a scientist, tested and made a substance similar to the FIV virus and found a way to kill the substance.  Then Poeschla tried putting the substance he made on a cat.  If the cat glowed, it means that the test is working.  If the substance glowed, that meant that Poeschla found a way to help people with HIV.  They still don’t know if the formula they found will work on people.
